Men’s footwear trends to know

We look at men’s footwear trends every season to advise where to invest for your wardrobe. Anchoring your wardrobe every day, footwear is something you don’t want to compromise on. The trainer industry significantly increases each year with the average young person owning six pairs. Industry analytics reported the market was worth £78.59 billion pounds in 2021, as we all invest in trainers to cement our status.

Trends have also recorded a switch from fashionable footwear to function. Slide-on ‘inside outside’ shoe styles have spiked with Birkenstock Boston’s and UGG Tasman’s seen across all social platforms from a-listers to influencers alike. Looking at the styles to invest in this season we run through the menswear trends you need to know about.

Loafers

After years of predominantly trainers and slipper-type footwear, formal footwear is on the rise. According to NPD Group sales of traditional dress shoes in both men's and women's fashion have seen double-digit percentage growth in 2022. This includes the classic men's loafer. With chunky styles and two-tone colour ways amongst the selection, men are opting for a traditional loafer this season.

Sandals

Walking and hiking footwear have become a trend among trending footwear, this is no different with men's sandals. Many of this season’s sandals have a chunkier more outdoor aesthetic. Popular brands such as KEEN are sandals responsibly designed specifically for outdoor hiking. Then you have brands such as Dr Marten that are just overall a chunkier and more trecky style, great for styling with socks. men's footwear trends

Vegan Trainers

Ethical and sustainable trainer brands are rising in popularity driving the demand away from mainstay brands. Consumers are wanting to buy less but better with recycled or vegan materials gaining momentum it has pushed new brands to the forefront of the trainer industry. If you are looking for ethical and sustainable trainers brands such as Good News and Veja are in high demand.men's footwear trends

Slip-on shoes

As previously mentioned, the popularity of fashionable but functional shoes has spiked as a must-have trend this season. Since the pandemic, many spend more time at home, with an appreciation for those slower days. However, our desire for stylish versions of these comfortable shoes is at an all-time high. Quilted styles from Subu and Good News are new favourites in our office.

Classic skate vans

There’s one brand that carries this trend and it's Vans. We are talking about the classic slip-on checkerboard Vans trainer. We felt it deserved its own shout-out this year. One of their best sellers over the years, inspired by skate culture this style is back on the rise again. Providing men with laid-back shoes for easy dressing and weekend wear, you can’t visit a city and not spot these heritage Vans.
