How to keep occasion wear comfortable

With wedding season in full swing and everyone making the most of summer nights and warm weekends, we have all pulled out our heels and summer sandals. For special occasions, everyone likes to get glammed up and trade in the everyday runarounds but sometimes at the mercy of our feet. The comfort of your feet can make or break the day.

We have all been there before; blisters, swelling, redness, crushed toes, and aching soles which ultimately ends in us not being able to walk. Well, fear no more because here are some key tips when buying occasion footwear to keep you comfortable, enabling you to dance all night.

It starts with shopping;

#1 Buying the right shoes for the shape of your foot is key. For example, if you have a wider foot then a pointy silhouette will not be a good shape for you in the long run and if you have a narrow foot and you know that some shoes slip off buy something supported. #2 Wedges are a great alternative they still provide height and glamour but because of their larger sole it makes them more stable and they add less pressure to one area of your foot.  #3 Buy shoes that have a platform. Buying a heel with a slight platform will add extra support to the bottom of your soles. If you have a platform it will relieve some of the pressure on the balls of your feet allowing you to keep them on comfortably for longer. #4 Buy better quality shoes so either suede or leather. They will mould to your foot and add more support being a better long term solution.#5 Think about the heel. Having a thicker heel and something slightly shorter will enable your feet to be in a more comfortable position while still looking sophisticated and stylish. #6 Security is key. Opting for something with straps to give your feet extra support and prevent your feet from moving around or rolling over will make you more comfortable throughout the day.

What to do when you have got your shoes home:

#1 When you get them home make sure you have the right size, try them on at the end of the day. This is when your feet will be at their biggest giving you a more realistic gauge of whether they fit you well. #2 Wear them around the house to wear them in. Some of your favourite shoes weren’t always the comfiest in the beginning so just give them a little bit of time.

SOS Emergency Handbag Saviours:

#1 Fabric blisters - putting one of these on the ball of your foot when wearing new heels can be a saviour. #2 You can get padded inserts that can be stuck onto the heel of your shoes giving you that extra cushioning around the Achilles that will stop them from slipping off or rubbing your feet.
