Five Shoes Trends From LCM SS17
Now in its fourth year and with over 100 designers exhibiting at this season’s edition, London Collections Men is today undoubtedly one of the key dates in the menswear fashion world. Where Paris offers traditional style and Milan provides us with extravagant, flamboyant fashion, LCM confirms the British capital’s reputation as the hotbed for vibrant, inventive, forward-thinking dress. A key influencer and indicator of the hottest looks that are just around the corner, we have scrutinised the catwalks of LCM SS17 to pick out the five key shoe trends that you should be buying in to.
Artisanal: Inspired by the vibrant, colourful streets of Marrakesh, Scandinavian menswear brand CMMN SWDN featured artisan slip-on boots in black and tan leathers reminiscent of traditional Moroccan souks. In recent years the footwear industry has seen a shift away from mass produced shoes in poor quality materials in favour of a return to classic craftsmanship and premium materials, evidenced by the renaissance of brands like Grenson as well as in the rise of brands such as Chamula.
All-White: A non-mover that looks set to stay in coming seasons, the all-white trainer was a strong footwear trend for LCM SS17. Xander Zhou has been an integral part of LCM since its opening edition in 2012 and his SS17 collection included a distressed take on the all-white trend to complement his oversized cuts and mass of stripes. Elsewhere, Barbour reinvented its heritage look with lightweight coats suitably for its Northern English homeland, shorts and low-top all-white sneakers.
Retro ‘90s: Famous for his irreverent, colourful approach to fashion, Henry Holland’s House of Holland presented another fun-filled, playful show drawing on classic British food branding for SS17. In keeping with that theme, the models were seen sporting classic ‘90s silhouettes include Nike Air Max and Vans Old Skool.
Socks & Sandals: Alongside iridescent scarfs and proving beige is beautiful, London-based label Astrid Andersen boldly reinstated socks and sandals as one of the freshest trends in the footwear game. Whether worn with shorts, relaxed fit joggers or a dress, Astrid Andersen showed how to make socks and sandals work for your throughout spring and summer.

Classic: Self-taught tailor and shopkeeper Oliver Spencer looked to 1950s Capri for inspiration for SS17, and in keeping with traditional Italian styling the brand looked to timeless yet carefully detailed footwear. Made mostly from leather with a classic colour palette, Spencer’s models wore the shoes with no-show socks that helped draw attention to the fine tailoring in the pants and the detailing of the shoes themselves.
