The Top 5 AW20 Street Style Trends

Sometimes fashion month can feel worlds away from our day to day life, as our Instagram feeds become packed full of beautiful models and influencers prancing through Paris streets. And the trends can feel far off too, as though we could never wear them in our daily lives. But the AW20 season saw some amazing wearable trends, bringing fashion back down to reality. The fashion crowd provided no end of inspiration, bringing the biggest trends to life in their street style snaps and giving us notes on styling. To save you hours of scrolling, here are our top AW20 street style trends.

#1 The Forever Boot

They say Dr Martens never go out of style, and AW20 street style proved that’s true as sturdy black boots were everywhere this season. Whether you prefer a chelsea boot style or the classic lace ups, heavy work boots remain a must-have. Their practicality and how easy they are to style makes this one of our favourite trends, helping up be more sustainable by investing in a pair of boots that are sure to last and will certainly stay in fashion. Like the fashion crowd, we’ll be pairing our black boots with everything from boho-inspired floaty maxi dresses to classic blue jeans for timeless minimalism with an edge. Unisex, ever-trending and rain-proof, what’s not to love.

#2 Dad Trainers

The chunky trainer trend is sticking around whether you’re a fan or not. AW20 saw the trend go back in time, ditching futuristic detailing for a return to retro. Taking us back to the origin of the trend, we saw loads of 90's vibe trainers in the street style snaps, coming from all the brands your dad used to love when you were a kid. If you’re lucky he’ll have kept some you could steal, but if not, think FILA, Puma and Sketchers in classic colourways. Keeping with the Dad vibes, we’re loving chunky trainers styled with oversized masculine fits, helping you style a matching suit-set as a casual day time look. Or if you’ve got somewhere to be, throw them on with everything for easy sprinting from show to show as we saw chunky retro trainers styled with suits and skirts alike. Chunky trainers have been sticking around season after season for a while and show no sign of disappearing, so if you’re looking to invest in one of the AW20 street style trends, you can be assured in this one.

#3 Go-Go Boots

Ever since we saw Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we knew we’d be hooked on this trend. So happy to see it sticking around, the late 60's inspired knee-high go-go boots remain high on the radar for AW20 street style. This season we’ve seen them in all colours and textures, from red suede with beads to animal print, but we’re big fans of keeping it classic. Black leather knee-high boots seemed to be a staple on every cool girl’s packing list this fashion month as we saw them in every city, styled to perfection with vintage-inspired swing dresses and chic skirt suits. The perfect boot for bridging the gap between tights season and bare-leg weather, knee-high boots are definitely an investment that will look great year-round with summer dresses as well as big coats.

#4 All-Weather Sandals

We’re praying for sunny days to come soon so we can get involved in one of our favourite AW20 street style trends. The Bottega effect extends beyond just their well-known pouch bags as they have us all sliding into sandals as well after filling their shoes with mules and sandals galore. Wearing them in rain and shine, if the fashion crowd’s dedication is anything to go by, we’re set to be hooked on this trend. Abandon the idea of formality, these heeled sandals are for all occasions as street style shots show them dressed down with jeans, hidden under oversized trousers and dressed up with mini dresses. In any and all colours, patterns and shapes, the best thing about this trend is how personalisable it is. Whether you opt for a barely-there style or a statement piece, you can make this one your own.

#5 Fresh White Boots

Your mother’s nightmare and something you definitely weren’t allowed as a child; white boots are big on the scene for AW20 street style. Kept as pristine as you possibly can, white boots seem to have taken over the western trend as we saw white pointed toes peeking out from under trousers in every city. You might think they’d be tricky to style, but you can treat them like any pair of black boots, pairing them with bold colours and monochromes alike. So simple but making such a statement, this is definitely a trend to dip your toes into if you can dedicate the time to shoe cleaning. If not, any neutral earthy tone will do, so maybe swap black leather for brown.
